The term oncology literally means a branch of science that deals with tumours and cancers. The word “onco” means bulk, mass, or tumor while “-logy” means study

Within the field of oncology, there are three primary clinical disciplines: medical oncology, surgical oncology, and radiation oncology.

• A medical oncologist specializes in treating cancer with chemotherapy (the use of drugs to kill cancer cells, usually by stopping the cancer cells’ ability to grow and divide) or other medications, such as targeted therapy and oral (in pill form) chemotherapy.
• A surgical oncologist specializes in the removal of the tumor and surrounding tissue during an operation. A surgical oncologist also performs biopsies (the removal of a small amount of tissue for examination under a microscope).
• A radiation oncologist specializes in treating cancer with radiation therapy (the use of high-energy x-rays or other particles to kill cancer cells).

The biggest oncology center is located in Germany. According to the World Health Organization, cancer is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Discovery of signs of cancer and medical care at the right time leads to its early detection. Early diagnosis is essential in cancers such as breast cancer, skin cancer , colon cancer , rectum, throat cancer, and mouth cancer.

Often  patient is diagnosed not only with cancer, but the cancer stage also. This information is crucial not only because what treatment options are most appropriate, but also helps in predicting the progress of cancer in the future.

The system consists of three phases:

• If the cancer has spread to lymph nodes.

• If the cancer has spread to nearby organs and tissues.

• If the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body.
